Holy Spirit Commentary

According to Statistics, among the top 10 New Yearly Resolutions tend to be focused on self – Exercise, lose weight, get organized, save more, spend less, stay healthy & fit, more success….. Sadly, “pray,” “develop a closer relationship with God” and “read my Bible more” did not make the top 10 list last year.

We need to renew our minds & focus on the spiritual aspects of our lives to have meaningful change. “Do not be conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. That ye may prove what is that good acceptable, perfect, will of God” (Rom 12:2). This is accomplished by

changing the content of our New Year’s Resolutions to encourage transformation such as follows:

1. Be thankful to God for what we have than complain for what we don’t have. Pray daily to hear & believe God’s will for us. The Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him?” (Deut 4:7).

2. Have daily Bible study to gain TRUTH & understand God’s character. “Search the scriptures for in them ye have eternal life & they are they which testify of me (John 5:39).

3. Encourage one another to continue in faith. Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. The God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Cor 13:11).

4. Invite at least one person non-participating person to church each week. “But encourage one another daily, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Heb 3:13).

5. Join/create a whole year round Bible study. “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18). Be ready to share always (as the spirit moves) what you learn.

6. Commit to community outreach. “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing” (Deut 10:18). He desires us to prosper.

7. Volunteer to serve especially at church. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

8. Open my home/share/contribute to potluck fellowship and discipleship. “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (Heb 13:2).

9. Commit to identifying the needs vs. wants. It is more blessed to give than to receive. “Why do you worry about tomorrow? See how the flowers of the field grow?” (Matt 6:28).

10. Evaluate the present and contemplate the Future by Trusting in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Prov 3:5).

These spiritual resolutions will only be transforming if you make them habits rather than goals.

It is proven scientifically that we are wired to – LOVE, Joy, peace, kindness, compassion & are inherent in us as God given natural gifts. Hate, Fear Jealous, Envy are all learned behavior. They are toxic and unnatural. No wonder Jesus commanded us to - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and others as self (Matt 22:37).

This quarter, we focus on the 5th Fundamental Truth – The Holy Spirit who will guide us into all TRUTH (Matt 16:13). All Scripture is given by Inspiration of God & is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness (2Tim3:16). May we all be in one accord as we Learn and Share His Word.
